Where perimeter security is won or lost

Gates and turnstiles control the openings in a perimeter. This broad category heading covers crash-rated vehicle gates, forced-entry-rated gates and turnstiles, and commercial access control; it does not mean every product is crash-rated. A rating applies only to the individual product and its tested configuration. Match each opening to the site’s forced-entry, vehicle-impact or everyday access-control requirement.

The access-control layer

This range includes different types of gates, speed gates and full-height turnstiles. Their security functions are not interchangeable:

• LPS 1175 Gates (certified across SR1–SR3) and LPS 1175 Turnstiles (SR1–SR4) — forced-entry-rated entry points for pedestrian and vehicle access, matched to the SR-level of the fence line. LPS 1175 is not a vehicle-impact standard; no crash rating is stated for these products.
• IWA 14-1 Lockdown gates (EAG04040, and the Westminster EAG04040W) and the IWA 14-1 & LPS 1175 Bi-Folding Speed Gate (EAG01040D, SR1–SR3) — crash rating and forced-entry certification combined with fast operation for high-throughput vehicle entrances.
• Commercial Gates and Commercial Turnstiles — commercial access control, not crash-rated HVM barriers. These products are not presented as LPS 1175-certified systems.

Choosing between speed, security and throughput

The right entry system is a balance of three things: the certified rating the opening must hold, how fast it has to cycle, and how many people or vehicles pass through it. A bi-folding speed gate answers high-throughput vehicle entrances that still need an SR and crash rating; full-height turnstiles control and audit pedestrian flow at the boundary; lockdown gates give a rapid secure-close on a threat. Tell us the throughput and the rating and we'll narrow it to the systems that meet both.

Share the opening width and traffic type, the SR and/or crash rating the entrance has to meet, the cycle speed you need, and how the gate ties into access control and the wider perimeter. We'll return a specification, drawings and a quote for a matched entry point.
