Thames Water Canfen Woven

Summary

Binns were awarded the security fencing upgrade as part of a wider security upgrade across a water treatment works for Severn Trent Water in the United Kingdom.

The site required a NSPA (formerly CPNI) approved solution and following consultation with the design team and STW security teams, our Canfen Woven product was selected. This was largely due to its NSPA proven security rating but was also due to the visibility through the fence once installed but also the ability to rake panels down steep gradients on the site.

The site had some unique operational and security challenges. Such as the need for gates to open against the normal NSPA guidelines meaning we had to design bespoke hinge to ensure they were protected from the attack face.

Additionally, there was an elevation of the site where there was a steep bank with a retaining wall. This meant that the effective height of the fence was reduced and therefore we needed to install a section of the fence that was over 5m high.

Following the fence installation, there was a Harper Chalice NSPA approved PID system installed to detect anyone cutting or climbing the fence. This meant the fence had to be installed to the highest standards to ensure there were no false alarms generate from the fence itself.

The site was inspected by Severn Trent Security team following completion of the full project and they were very pleased and happy with the system installed and the high standard of installation for the fencing and gates.
